About Our Satellites
Northstar has three satellites that help us create an extensive network to aid our clients in information and data delivery.
Optical Remote Sensing <1m Resolution @500km
Northstar features a more traditional imaging satellite with its WonderJourney ORS Satellite.
Optical Remote Sensing satellites, although more traditional, use remote sensing techniques – by use of electromagnetic radiation – allowing the satellites to cover a wider range of area at more frequent intervals while also allowing for modifications in the wavelengths of the radiation.
These abilities are what make ORS satellites highly useful for environmental and landscape monitoring and analysis. That can help mitigate losses from natural disasters such as floods, landslides, earthquakes, etc.
WonderExplore™ M series
Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) X band, Phased Array Antenna
WonderExplore is Northstar’s top-of-the-line in satellite imagery, keeping up with the new technology.
Synthetic Aperture Radar satellites, unlike traditional satellites, have active sensors; this means that the satellite is capable of sending out its own energy and then sensing its scattering on Earth’s surface. While traditional satellites would be obstructed by factors like cloud cover and nighttime — as they need an illuminated view of the earth to work — SAR satellites aren’t hindered by these factors.
SAR satellites are much more detailed than traditional ORS satellites and are used to know more about the changing topography and environment to figure out other factors.
